Participating First Nations:
The North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council (NSMTC) is comprised of and provides services to seven member Mi’kmaq First Nation communities: Ugpi’ganjig (Eel River Bar), Oinpegitjoig (Pabineau), Natoaganeg (Eel Ground), Metepenagiag (Red Bank), L’nui Menikuk (Indian Island), Tjipogtotjg (Buctouche), and Amlamgog (Fort Folly).
Scope of Position:
Reporting to the Housing Manager, the Housing Intern is a highly motivated professional with excellent collaboration, communication, and innovation skills. The intern is responsible for providing support on Housing services to all participating First Nation communities. The Housing Intern will play a pivotal role in supporting housing capacity in Indigenous communities through our organization's initiatives. Responsibilities include collaborating with NSMTC housing staff, conducting inspections, participating in workshops, engaging in community outreach, and supporting grant proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
Please note the following duties are not exhaustive and subject to change based on the needs of the organization and/or supervisor:
• Collaborating with NSMTC housing manager/staff to manage daily administrative and managerial tasks related to housing deliverables.
• Assisting in conducting housing inspections and compiling detailed reports thereafter. • Assisting communities in developing housing renovation projects, including preparing work descriptions/scope of work, and providing accurate cost estimates.
• Actively participating in in-person Housing Workshops for First Nation member communities; assisting in organizing, facilitating, and supporting workshop activities; and contributing to post workshop initiatives.
• Playing a role in the overall administration of the current NSMTC Housing Program, including data management and program evaluation.
• Actively engaging in community outreach initiatives to heighten awareness about NSMTC's housing programs and available resources. This involves attending community gatherings, networking events, and career fairs to foster connections and disseminate information effectively.
• Providing support for preparing grant proposals, funding applications, and project reports related to housing initiatives.
• Providing ongoing support for each of the NSMTC member communities in implementing and maintaining the asset management plans developed under this program.
• Other technical and administrative duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
• One year of post-secondary education is preferred
• Understanding of the First Nations organizations and communities within the North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council
Technical Skills
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and the ability to learn other software applications (e.g., ArcGIS online)
• Spoken and written proficiency in English is required; proficiency in Mi’kmaq will be considered an asset
• A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required, as occasional travel within and outside New Brunswick may be necessary.

Salary will be based on education, experience, and qualifications of the successful candidate.
The candidate must be of First Nations descent, as eligibility for funding for this position is contingent upon this criteria.
