Position: Community Emergency Management Coordinator

Job Summary
The Community Emergency Management Coordinator will enhance Pabineau First Nation’s emergency response capabilities by developing and maintaining comprehensive emergency management plans and procedures. This role involves close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure preparedness and effective coordination during emergencies, directly impacting the safety and well-being of the community.

Responsibilities

Emergency Management Plan Development and Training

  • Design, develop, and coordinate emergency management training programs.

  • Identify risks and hazards specific to the First Nation community and create mitigation strategies.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Participate in internal and external emergency preparedness committees, including hospitals, local, regional, and provincial agencies.

  • Ensure compliance with Emergency Measures Organization New Brunswick (EMO NB) guidelines.

  • Act as the central point of contact during emergencies, coordinating response efforts across departments and agencies.

Leadership and Planning

  • Lead the Regional Emergency Measures Organization (REMO) Planning Team in designing and implementing emergency preparedness plans.

  • Apply the Incident Command System (ICS) in emergency management planning, supporting areas such as safety, logistics, communications, and finance.

  • Promote community autonomy and leadership in emergency management initiatives.

Project Management and Problem-Solving

  • Develop project plans and timelines to address outstanding emergency tasks.

  • Identify and resolve inconsistencies in emergency response plans across jurisdictions.

  • Strengthen coordination between the community and its Tribal Council to expand emergency management goals.

Continuous Learning and Resource Management

  • Attend seminars and research best practices to stay informed about emergency preparedness advancements.

  • Maintain updated emergency call lists and coordinate supply and equipment requests.

Collaboration with External Agencies

  • Regularly attend emergency preparedness meetings with local, regional, and provincial agencies.

Plan Maintenance and Recommendations

  • Work with EMO INAC (Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada) and New Brunswick to maintain and update Emergency Management Plans.

  • Improve consistency, collaboration, and community capacity in emergency management.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience: Equipment maintenance experience is beneficial.

Additional Requirements

  • Clean criminal record.

  • Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle.

  • Physical stamina for demanding tasks.

  • Availability for extended hours and emergency response.
