Pabineau First Nation's Annual Magic Mountain Adventure: A Day of Fun and Family in Moncton

By Austin Belliveau

The Magic Mountain trip is a fun getaway for community members to spend the day in Moncton, New Brunswick. Magic Mountain waterpark is where we got to stay for the day; this waterpark has multiple slides and pools, like the Kamikaze and the wave pool. Pabineau First Nation likes to organize a trip to Magic Mountain every year because it is a great community experience for families.

The day starts off by meeting at the band hall to get tickets and then waiting for the buses. Some people drive down in their own cars instead of taking the bus and meet there. We leave in the morning and then travel down to Moncton. Magic Mountain is a waterpark with many pools and waterslides. When you enter the park, you have to walk across a bridge through a building that looks like a riverboat and has a lazy river going around it. There is also a zoo, an amusement park, and even mini-golf. Some of the community members go to the zoo, the amusement park, and golf. Everyone arrives together and then splits up to do whatever they want during the time that we are there.

There is something for everyone at Magic Mountain. There are slides for little kids and big kids. There is a hot tub and lots of different pools around. The most popular pool is the wave pool; it is everyone’s favorite. The wave pool is in the middle of the park, and there are lots of chairs to lounge on near it. The pool is huge, and the waves can get very big. Lifeguards surround the pool and the slides for safety. The biggest slide there is called the Kamikaze, and it is very tall and fast. Some people are afraid of going down it; only the bravest do. The kids and even the adults get to experience a nice, relaxing day out by the pool. People love going down the waterslides with their long, twisty loops and drop-downs. The waterpark also has some great food vendors. There are different vendors in the middle of the park with food like pizza, fries, and beaver tails.

The weather changed a lot that day. It was sunny with sprinkles of rain every once in a while. At one point, there were dark, thunderous clouds, but they lasted a short time, and it was sunny again. The weather didn’t stop anybody from having a good time. The community relaxed and had fun with their families, socialized, and lounged. Everyone had fun until our community left in the evening, back on the buses or in their cars. We stopped at McDonald’s for supper before heading home to Pabineau in the evening.

Overall, it was a very positive day. Everyone who went had the best experience and is looking forward to it next summer in 2025.
