PABINEAU UPDATE 14 August 2023

Dear community members of Pabineau, this is simply an update on what is happening and going on in Pabineau. As most of you know, the gas station on Vanier is now up and running, and the strip mall is also starting to take shape. We are trucking material from Belledune to the old mine site, so our trucks are up and running. We continue to work with the surrounding communities and the Port of Belledune on the green energy hub plan, and we have signed MOUs with ABO Wind and the Next Era for Hydrogen development. The SMNR (Small Module Nuclear Reactors) file continues to move forward, and this is an equity opportunity for Pabineau and Eel River Bar. Soon we will have the Economic Development Corporation in place with our many businesses, which will separate politics from business.

We are in the process of building four more houses this year, as well as two four-plexes. The Housing Committee has selected who will be going into those homes. We obtained funding through the hard work of Luke Demarsh to purchase a medical van which we will be delivering very soon.

The monument to Missing and Murdered Aboriginal women and girls is up and is the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada. Well done to all those involved in that endeavour.

Economic prosperity is what will give us freedom in the future, and the Chief and Council continue to turn rocks over and get the best opportunities to the table.

With school soon to start in September, kids will be starting to get ready again.

As Chief and Council, we continue to serve the community and those in it. We are here for all BAND members and continue to move Pabineau forward positively and prosperously. Our doors are always open, and we are always willing to talk to band members about their concerns.

Chief Terry Richardson
