Pabineau First Nation Applauds Emily's Academic and Activist Accomplishments

Pabineau First Nation is delighted to celebrate Emily, a 20-year-old student at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Fredericton, who has recently completed her third year pursuing joint honours in Law and Society with Criminology. Emily's passion for understanding the impact of colonialism from a sociolegal perspective has driven her to excel academically and make significant contributions to her community.

Emily’s dedication to her studies is evident through her remarkable academic performance, maintaining a GPA of 4.2 during the 2023-2024 academic year. Despite her rigorous academic commitments, she has also emerged as a powerful voice for Indigenous issues, both locally and nationally.

Her activism has garnered considerable attention, with notable features on Global News Halifax and CBC Morning Radio, where she discussed her work on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. Emily's efforts to raise awareness and promote understanding of Indigenous perspectives have made a profound impact. Last fall, she represented the UNB Indigenous community by delivering a moving speech at a ceremony, where she addressed educational policies that restricted the hosting of a Powwow at Fredericton High School, advocating for cultural inclusion and recognition.

Emily’s commitment to activism extends beyond local platforms. Recently, she was invited to join a prestigious panel discussion by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Governor General Mary Simon. The panel focused on the critical issue of unsafe online spaces and the need for better handling of digital abuse in New Brunswick, highlighting Emily's dedication to addressing contemporary challenges affecting marginalized communities.

Beyond her academic and activist pursuits, Emily remains an active and engaged member of the Pabineau First Nation. Her involvement in community events and her unwavering support for Indigenous causes reflect her deep commitment to fostering positive change. Emily hopes that her journey will inspire others, particularly Indigenous women and girls, to believe in their potential to break barriers and achieve greatness.

Emily's achievements are a source of immense pride for Pabineau First Nation. Her hard work, dedication, and passion for justice and equality serve as an inspiration to all. We congratulate Emily on her accomplishments and look forward to her continued success as she strives to make a difference in the world.
