Patricia Roy's Multi-Faceted Role
Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative

Patricia oversees the work of the Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative Worker, Laura Mae Sewell.  Patricia also oversees the Physical Fitness Program which is managed by the Receptionist/Health Assistant, Marie Kryszko.

Communicable Disease Control

Patricia provides the following health services under the Communicable Disease Control program:

  • Sexual Health Services, including birth control counseling, HIV, Hepatitis B & C testing
  • Education on AIDS and blood born pathogen disease prevention 
  • Flu Vaccines
  • Implementation of the community-based Pandemic Flu Strategy which is linked through a partnership with the Regional Health Authority
  • Participates in annual food safety training discussions of the Pabineau First Nation Powwow Committee
Environmental Health

As a part of her role as Health Director, Patricia:

  • Maintains an ongoing supply of “Sharp” disposal containers for use at the Health Center and in a number of private homes and responsible for their proper management and disposal of the contents
  • Maintains an understanding of the community water system and reviews ongoing water quality test results.
Home & Community Care / Assisted Living Coordinator

The Home and Community Care / Assisted Living Program aims to preserve our elders’ (and those with disabilities) capacity to remain independent and reside within the Pabineau First Nation community for as long as possible, to promote wellness, and to prevent or delay the need for institutional care. The intent of the program is to provide patients with assisted living support and personal care for community members with health-limiting conditions that may be acute or chronic, short term or long term.

Patricia is responsible to coordinate and oversee of the Home & Community Care Program.  As the Coordinator, Patricia is responsible to:

  • Perform HCC needs assessments and design support plans for potential and existing clients
  • Supervise the delivery of HCC services provided to clients  
  • Guide the HCC worker(s) to ensure that services are delivered as per the prescribed support plan.
  • Review the conditions of the clients’ homes in the interest of ensuring the safety and protection of the client
  • Prepare and maintain all essential HCC documentation
  • Upload monthly patient care information as data to e-SDRT
